Canter Pirouette on Yupo

Canter Pirouette

11.5" x 7.75
Acrylic, Gesso, & Graphite
on Yupo

Sold

I love experimenting. I love the feeling of recklessness that I get from not know if what I am about to do will work or if it will end up in the dust bin.

I started with a drawing in water soluble graphite. Next I went in with acrylic paint and water, nothing to risky there. I wanted some darkness and I wanted it coming from underneath what I had already finished, so I flipped the piece of yupo over and work on that side.

I am very pleased with the out come.

Relieving the Stress

Shooting Star
Oil and Mixed Media on Panel

From time to time someone approaches me and wants to know if I will do a lay-away plan for them on a particular painting or print. They are usually a bit shy about this, but they shouldn't be. The answer is almost always yes.

The monthly payment plan gives me a bit of relief from stress. I know I don't have to worry about this bill or that because a check is coming in. That in turn allows me to focus for easily on creating.

To those of you who have or are on a payment plan for art, thank you!

Fresh off the Easel

Ghost Horse
Mixed Media on Panel
15" x 15"
1250.00

This painting took years and moments to create.

I had a panel that I had been adding and subtracting color to for years. Literally years. I have memories of this particular panel that are at least 8 years old.

Sunday I was looking at it. I really like the color. I started adding lines with a pencil that became the outline of a horse. I started mixing paint and applying it to the surface and then removing it. I added more lines with colored pencils, I added more paint, and so it went on.

Yesterday morning I looked at it and thought it was finished, so I left it alone. Today I believe it is ready to share with you.

Horse of a Different Color

One of the things I love about printmaking is that I can make lots of variations with the same basic image. It is so exciting to experiment with different media and colors of ink and maker. Adding marks here and removing them there.

I had an intaglio print that I embellished with watercolor, ink, and various papers. I then mounted the on either Rives BFK or Somerset paper that was torn to approximately 11" x 15". The print sizes are all about 5.5" x 10.5" and mounted on a torn sheet of decorative paper that is roughly 11" x 13". All prints are $165.00 each.

Sometime the differences are small, and the prints have the same mood or feel. Other times they are huge.

Here are some of the results.

Horse Fever

This is the cause of my latest fever. He's a 3yr old TB colt.I just love the way he looks.
As many of you know my horse Abe was put down just before Thanksgiving. It was hard, but he didn't suffer. His last 3 years he had the best care possible and was turned out on grass.Heaven for a high desert horse.
Anyway,I am not quite ready for a new horse.I have a "plan" that doesn't include a horse or horse shopping for a few month.None the less, this one keeps tugging at my heart strings.
Oh be still my heart!
If anyone else is interested in this guy email me and I give you the contact information.

Someone is going to look at this boy tomorrow.Let's all keep our fingers crossed that they love him and he has found a home!

Mostly Green

The more I take photos of my paintings, the more I appreciate my photographer!Tom Alexander always makes the gold leaf look amazing and captures the subtle element of the paintings that I completely miss.
This gives you the idea.I loved the way his feet came out!

Collage

Another one of the collages I sent to West of the Moon.
I really love creating small collages.Gathering all the bits and arranging them on a painted surface. It's play!
When they are finished, they always remind me of something almost forgotten.

Printmaking

Yesterday I had the opportunity to drive up to Richmond and print.I have not had access to a press for several months and I was in heaven. The press studio has large windows that let in plenty of light. It is very quite and serene even though it's in the middle of Richmond.
I am a very lucky girl!

Pretty in Pink

I love pink.Pink is one of my favorite colours.People who know me can't quite get their heads around that.In the late 70's and early 80's I frequented shows where Punk bands would be playing.I routinely dress in Pink & Black.A close friend once commented that I looked like a Bunny Funeral. One of my proudest moment.Pink just gets bad press.Anyway, I felt like I was going out on a limb when I started this painting. Now that it's finished I love it too!
